Mumbai has picked up some good cheap batsmen in the middle order. Raidu is a Test class batsman, and Tiwary also looks good. Their wicketkeeper Tare bats a bit like Karthik.  Add to that Bravo or Pollard and its a formidable middle order. With Zaheer and Malinga being very reliable, Delhi would probably need a special innings from one of their top order batsmen to overcome Mumbai.

East vs South – Roshugulla vs Gun powder rice! Ganguly vs Dhoni!!

KKR have started the season pretty strongly. Dada is in charge and the results are showing. It was about time they dumped Buchanan and his multiple captain nonsense. Dada knows how to win games, he has done it for India and now he is doing it for KKR in IPL.

Chennai lost their first game to Deccan and to be honest looked very flat. They just dont have the bowling to control the innings. Like Mumbai has Zaheer and Malinga who can just stop the run flow at will. Chennai just has some bits and pieces allrounders. The batting also isnt the strongest.

This match should also go to KKR.

IPL 2010 Highlights, Results….

Its North vs South – Chole Bhature vs Masala Dosa!

Both teams lost their first games and that too pretty comprehensively. While Punjab looked to be in it against Delhi, 140 odd runs were always going to be difficult to defend. Bangalore on the other hand were given a royal thrashing by KKR. Both teams would want to start winning from this game onwards.

I like the look of Bangalore team, the batting looks solid even if it failed in the first game. Some runs are expected from Pandey and Kohli. Dravid and Kallis are always there! Though I would prefer to see Dravid a bit up the order. However all RCB plans can go for a toss if Yuvraj goes berserk.

IPL 2010 Highlights, Results….

Bangladesh did well to extend the game into day 5 with Siddique and Rahim batting well to stall England. Siddique scored a nice 68 and Rahim is also nearing a fifty. Bangladesh would do even better to extend this game into the final session of the test. However I see the match getting over by 1 hour after lunch, but would love to see Bangladesh prove me wrong.

Can Siddique, Rahim and Co. pull off a miracle and save the game? Dont count on a miracle but you never know Stay tuned for the final day.

Bangladesh continued the good work from Day 2 last session and essentially won Day 3, but they are still far behind in this game. Rahim played well and pushed up Bangladesh score to 296 and then Bangladesh bowled well to pick up 5 wickets.

Still England should win this match comfortably as they are way way ahead.

West Indies will be looking for a fourth win on the trot now, and quite a few players would be eager to get on the planes to India to join in IPL. While West Indies are leading the series 3-1 their performances have been far from convincing especially in the middle order.  Gayle also has been pretty blunt in his criticism of the middle order.

Zimababwe started of the tour well but have fallen off after 2 initial wins.  They need to be more consistent in their performances. Charles Coventry, the former record holder for his 194, should get a look-in in the tour’s final game.

Chennai start their campaign against the Defending champions Deccan Chargers. Chennai have a pretty strong batting lineup with Hayden, Dhoni and Raina forming the core of it. Also Matthew Hayden, is all set to unveil a Mongoose bat at this IPL. This bat resembles a rowing paddle, with a much longer and flexible handle, is designed to increase power by 20% and bat speed by 15% than conventional bats. It sounds interesting, some innovation at least!

Deccan would want to forget their first game in a hurry, they should not have lost that match, and not have squandered their advantage twice in one game. As Rohit said after the game against KKR that he should have stayed on and finish the game. The Chargers’ middle order in general needs to take more responsibility and finish off the games.

More IPL 2010 Highlights, Results….

Bangalore who was called a ‘Test team’ in 2008 reached the finals in 2009 and are expected to do well in this edition of IPL as well. They start their campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens. Bangalore currently have only Morgan with them amongst the foreign players. The South Africans would be arriving about the same time as the time of writing this piece. Its not sure if they will play this game on account of jet lag/tiredness. Still Bangalore’s Indian contingent is quite strong and should hold on its own.

Kolkata has done away with Buchanan and the idiotic multiple captain theory. Ganguly is back with the job he loves and is good at – captaining the side. And he should get tremendous support at Eden Gardens! Kolkata has a decent team and can string together some good performances. I will be looking out for Pujara, he has been doing well in First Class cricket, and if he does well in IPL as well he can be fast tracked into Indian team.
