Globetrotting Cape Town-based duo, Locnville, will perform at the Airtel Champions League Twenty20 opening concert on September 9 at Emmarentia Botanic Gardens here.

The identical twin brothers, Andrew and Brian Chaplin, who have become household favourites, following the release of their first single ‘Sun in my Pocket’, will perform as support to Spanish music sensation Enrique Iglesias in the ‘Enrique Live’ Concert, an event which will formally inaugurate the League that gets underway a day later at the Wanderers Stadium.

“This is great news for the fans. Locnville have been playing to sell out audiences across the world, and we are delighted that they are part of the Airtel CLT20 opening concert,” CLT20 Governing Council member Gerald Majola said.

Teenager Ben Wheeler has replaced injured New Zealand all-rounder Jacob Oram in the Central Stags squad for next month’s Airtel Champions League Twenty20 in South Africa.

The Technical Committee of the tournament, to be held in four South African cities from September 10-26, on Friday confirmed Wheeler’s inclusion through a media release here.

The 18-year-old Wheeler, an emerging talent in New Zealand cricket, replaced Oram after scans confirmed that the Kiwi all-rounder will require surgery on his injured knee.

Sachin Tendulkar-led Mumbai Indians can go all the way and capture the title and $2.5 million prize money in the Airtel Champions League Twenty20 event that gets underway in South Africa on September 10, coach Robin Singh said on Friday.

“We have the team to win the tournament. We are going with a positive intent. Everyone is excited. We played exceedingly well in IPL 3 and are looking ahead now to win the Champions League,” said the former India all rounder.

MI lost to Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 3 final on April 25 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai.

Jacon Oram has been ruled out of the upcoming Champions League Twenty20 in South Africa following his knee injury. Scans revealed that he had done damage to his patella tendon and he is now hoping to return for Pakistan’s visit in December.

Oram was representing Central Stags in Champions League and expresses his disappointment for his unavailability.

“While I’m gutted to miss the Champions League with the Stags I’m thankful the medical specialist has found the problem now so we can get the right plans in place to get it right,” Oram, 32, said. “I’ve been told that I should be realistically targeting the Pakistan homes series at the end of the year, but who knows, if surgery and rehab goes well I may be available for selection before the Indian tour in November.”

Cricket Victoria announced that David Hussey will lead the Bushrangers in the second edition of Champions League Twenty20 starting September 10 in South Africa instead of Cameron White who is contractually obligated to play for his Indian Premier League team, the Royal Challengers Bangalore.

According to the contract he must represent his IPL side if asked and Victoria has signed an agreement to compete in the Champions League which says it has to abide by such arrangements.

Indian Premier League 3 runners-up Mumbai Indians, led by batting great Sachin Tendulkar, will face South Africa’s Highveld Lions in the opening match of the Airtel Champions League Twenty20 at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on September 10.

Mumbai Indians and IPL’s third-placed outfit Royal Challengers Bangalore have been placed in Group B along with Highveld Lions, South Australia Redbacks, and West Indies’ representative to be determined in late July.

IPL champions Chennai Super Kings, led by Mahendra Singh Dhoni, are in Group A alongside the Twenty20 champions from Australia, South Africa, New Zealand and Sri Lanka, the organisers announced on Tuesday.

The final would be held at the Wanderers on September 26 while Durban and Centurion have been awarded the semifinals on September 24 and 25 respectively.

The 10 competing teams have been divided into two groups of five for a round robin phase before the top two teams from each group progress to the semifinals.

Matches have been evenly distributed across the four venues with each hosting at least five fixtures, including the final, the organisers said.

Champions League Twenty20 organizers have announced that this year the tournament will be hosted in South Africa from September 10 to 26. The tournament chairman Lalit Modi has confirmed the decision, following a meeting in Mumbai where it was formally agreed to accept the Cricket South Africa’s invitation.

“South Africa is considered an ideal CLT20 host after successfully staging the Indian Premier League and ICC World Twenty20 tournaments in recent years, as well as the strong support shown for its domestic Pro20 Series competition,” said Modi via a press release.

The venues and the participating team will be declared in the near future. The first edition of the tournament took place in India last year before the attack after which IPL moved to South Africa in 2009. Champions League is run by by the boards of India, Australia and South Africa and they have finalized the venue for this year. However the tournament clashes with England’s county season which finishes on 16 September. At the same time England and Pakistan will be contesting in a ODI series that runs till September 22.

Lalit Modi has announced that Champions League Twenty20 tournament will kick off from September 10, 2010. However the dates and venues are not yet finalized. The series will be held from Sep 10 to Sep 20 in this year and full schedule will follow up later. He said that dates are finalized according to the Future tours Programme.

The event will be clashing with Pakistan ODI series against the England and the English County season but we still can expect a lot of T20 action coming up. Schedules, Venue and other details will follow up when they are released.
