India 1st Innings

  • India lost 7th wicket in 61st over – 7-190 (Harbhajan Singh, 60.2 ov)
  • D Steyn to H Singh, OUT! Caught at slips!Five-for for Steyn! Full length delivery landed outside off, hint of away movement, bowled at 136.2 kph, Harbhajan pushes inside the line and gets an edge. AB de Villiers at third slip dived full length to his right and claims the chance. A disappointed looking Harbhajan walks back to the hut.
  • India lost 8th wicket in 62nd over – 8-193 (Khan, 61.6 ov)
  • M Morkel to Khan, GONE! Morkel at first attempt pitches it in the area of uncertainty between in and around off stump which Zaheer, caught in two minds, looked to defend it. It kisses the outer side of his willow and Boucher gets another scalp.

  • India lost 9th wicket in 65th over – 9-205 (Dhoni, 64.5 ov)

  • India lost 10th wicket in 66th over – 10-205 (Sreesanth, 65.1 ov)
  • Morkel to Sreesanth, Good length ball just outside off. OUT, Top edge! Good ball by Morkel. It’s high in the air and taken by Boucher. India have been bowled out.
  • Innings Break: India – 205/10 in 65.1 overs (I Sharma 1)

South Africa 1st Innings

  • South Africa lost 1st wicket in 5th over – 1-23 (Smith, 4.6 ov)
  • Z Khan to Smith, Beauty by Zaheer. He pitches it further inwards towards off and moves slightly away. OUT! Smith nicks it and it’s an easy catch for Dhoni. India get their break through.
  • Drinks: South Africa – 45/1 in 10.0 overs (AN Petersen 24, HM Amla 9)
  • South Africa lost 2nd wicket in 11th over – 2-46 (Petersen, 10.3 ov)
  • Khan to A Petersen, Pitched around middle and leg and straightens. OUT! Petersen’s trusted glance betrays him as he gets an edge onto his pads and then onto his stumps. Big, big wicket this for India. Petersen was looking so unperturbed in the middle, it was a huge cause for concern. It has been an excellent spell by Zaheer.
  • South Africa: 50 runs in 11.2 overs (70 balls), Extras 3
  • South Africa lost 3rd wicket in 16th over – 3-67 (Kallis, 15.2 ov)
  • Sharma to Kallis, Good length ball on middle and off. OUT, Amla has driven that ball straight back. The ball has hit the stumps and Sharma gets a touch onto it. Umpire Davis signals towards the Third Umpire. Third Umpire signals Kallis out. South Africa have lost their third wicket.
  • South Africa lost 4th wicket in 17th over – 4-74 (de Villiers, 16.4 ov)
  • Sreesanth to Villiers, Sreesanth once again bowls runs in closer to his stumps. He pitches it in off and cuts it away from DeVilliers. DeVilliers’ defence is breached and draws and edge. OUT! Dhoni collects it easily behind the wicket. We have a match on!
  • Lunch: South Africa – 74/4 in 16.4 overs (HM Amla 24)
  • South Africa lost 5th wicket in 26th over – 5-96 (Amla, 25.1 ov)
  • H Singh to Amla, Amla premeditatedly comes across his crease and Harbhajan ceases the opportunity to fire it in towards the stumps. Amla sweeps but it hits his pads plum in the middle. Loud appeals but those are just a formality as the danger man Amla’s OUT!
  • South Africa: 100 runs in 26.2 overs (167 balls), Extras 11
  • South Africa lost 6th wicket in 27th over – 6-100 (Prince, 26.4 ov)
  • Z Khan to Prince, Pace and bounce by Zaheer, hitting the deck in that area of uncertainty. Prince gets an inside edge. OUT! Straight onto his stumps the ball lands. Zaheer once again the target man. India are back into this.
  • South Africa lost 7th wicket in 30th over – 7-103 (Steyn, 29.1 ov)
  • H Singh to D Steyn, Harbhajan pitches it shortner and entices Steyn to play at it. The ball straightens and Steyn gets a leading edge. The ball goes past Dhoni but OUT! Dravid at first slip! Sprang of nowhere! Diving to his left. It’s all going India’s way now. Steyn departs.
  • South Africa lost 8th wicket in 30th over – 8-103 (Harris, 29.6 ov)
  • Harbhajan Singh to Harris, OUT, 85.3 kph, another one bites the dust! Boy, the action rolls on in manic speed. Harris pokes one to the leg side as it turns into his pads. It was going quickly and well away from Pujara at short leg, but he showed tremendous anticipation, diving away to his right and plucking it with one hand and then steadying it between chest and hands as he went down. Two supreme catches in one over.
  • South Africa lost 9th wicket in 37th over – 9-127 (Morkel, 36.4 ov)
  • Sharma to Morkel, OUT, 135.7 kph, Harbhajan take a bow! What a catch! Another bouncer from Ishant. This time Morne decides to have a go at it. The extra bounce meant it took the top edge. It swirled up towards fine leg. Bhajji was standing much squarer and had a lot of ground to cover. But he got there. He then put his hands up to his left, jumped off the turf, ensured he fell inside the ropes despite the ball’s momentum threatening to take him over. He landed around a metre in. Anyone remember Adam Bacher’s legendary catch in 1996-97? Well, this was not as good as that one. But it gets closer than the others.
  • South Africa lost 10th wicket in 38th over – 10-131 (Tsotsobe, 37.2 ov)
  • Harbhajan Singh to Tsotsobe, OUT, 83.9 kph, Harbhajan finishes it off. India lead by 74 – a mammoth advantage considering the conditions. Tossed up offie on off stump, Tsotsobe looks to smear it without getting his feet to the pitch. He scoops it straight to midwicket. Harbhajan is delighted. India are on top.
  • Innings Break: South Africa – 131/10 in 37.2 overs (M Boucher 16)
  • Tea: South Africa – 131/10 in 37.2 overs (M Boucher 16)

India 2nd Innings

  • India lost 1st wicket in 10th over – 1-42 (Sehwag, 9.1 ov)
  • Tsotsobe to Sehwag, OUT, 133.2 kph, Tsotso has spiked the biggest gun of Navarone. Sehwag flails at a tempter, landed on a length but well wide outside off and took the outside edge through to Boucher. South Africa will breathe a huge sigh of relief. Sehwag tends to take matches away from the opposition in no times and seemed on his way here.
  • India lost 2nd wicket in 11th over – 2-44 (Vijay, 10.3 ov)
  • Morkel to Vijay, OUT, 138.6 kph, and that’s exactly what I meant. Vijay gets a monster delivery from Morne. That was short of a length and coming into Vijay’s body, before it took off and homed in on his head like a guided missile. He fended at it in a hurry and looked completely non-plussed as it took the splice and popped up to Amla at short leg. Morne gives Vijay a send-off for good measure. The wickets continue to tumble in Kingsmead.
  • India lost 3rd wicket in 12th over – 3-48 (Dravid, 11.2 ov)
  • Tsotsobe to Dravid, OUT, 131.4 kph, Tsotso has taken another huge wicket here! This match continues to swing from side to side. Dravid’s poor record in South Africa continues. His travails against left-arm seamers outside the off stump continue. This was a poor shot. It was at least a foot outside off and not very full either. Dravid went for the off-drive without getting well forward, but could not get close enough to middle it. It took the outside edge on the way to Boucher.
  • India: 50 runs in 11.5 overs (71 balls), Extras 1
  • India lost 4th wicket in 15th over – 4-56 (Tendulkar, 14.1 ov)
  • Steyn to Tendulkar, OUT, 132.5 kph, and they have changed even more drastically after his first ball! Sachin is gone. He’s not edged this, as much as steered it off the face of the bat. Fast and furious stuff from Steyn, on the driving length outside off, so it was there for the shot, but he was a touch late on the it. It flew straight to third slip where AB pouches it. Steyn is ecstatic.
  • Drinks: India – 76/4 in 21.0 overs (VVS Laxman 12, C Pujara 6)
  • Bad Light: India – 92/4 in 30.5 overs (VVS Laxman 23, C Pujara 10)
  • End Of Day: India – 92/4 in 30.5 overs (VVS Laxman 23, C Pujara 10)
