India started off the tournament with a loss but they came back well in the game by winning 2 consecutive matches. But the tournament is getting interest not mainly due to the win or loss but due to the increasing injuries in both Indian and Aussies squad. The latest one is Gambhir and Sehwag doubtful for the Mohali ODI. Gambhir was struck on the neck by a full-blooded pull from Ponting while fielding at short leg and a yorker from Peter Siddle crashed into Sehwag’s foot. Dinesh Karthik has been called as a replacement but India still have the edge with their strong batting line-up.
Aussies on the other hand are losing their key players with every match. Aussies third player will be flying back home, James Hopes picked up a hamstring strain in the first one-dayer, remained with the squad longer than fellow casualties Brett Lee and Tim Paine, but hadn’t recovered quickly enough for him to be able to play the remaining ODIs. Clint McKay has been called as a replacement. So for Aussies this series is getting worse by every match. On one side they have consistent batsman like Michael Hussey and Ricky Ponting but on the other side they lack in the bowling. Mitchell Johnson and Peter Siddle are their only key bowlers.
India need to win the match to stay ahead in the series and more importantly to clinch the no. 1 spot of the ICC ODI Ranking. Aussies will be trying hard so that Indians doesn’t get close to them so easily. If Aussies win they will stretch their lead of one point to three point. So quite an interesting match to come up, stay tuned to catch all the updates.
