Match Today: Pakistan v Australia, 2nd Test (2010), Day 3, MCC Spirit of Cricket, Headingley
After Day 2 this Test match is well balanced now with Pakistan still holding on to a 34-run lead. After a terrible Day 1 Australia have fought their way back into this Test match and have opened things up heading into Day 3. Pakistan would be disappointed with their batting effort, after being 222/5 at one stage, they let things slip underneath by losing their last 5 wickets for just 36 runs. In second innings, Australia led by skipper Ricky Ponting and deputy skipper Michael Clarke have batted well against the swinging deliveries. Ponting, after struggling initially, has settled down well, stroked his 52nd Test fifty and also completed 12,000 Test runs in the process.
Pakistan started off well with the ball picking up Katich very early but it has been a struggle since. Although they managed to pick out Watson as well, Ponting and Clarke have looked rock solid to pull things back in Australia’s favour. Paksitan bowling was disappointing after Tea but Mohammad Asif bowled brilliantly and kept both these batsmen on their toes. Australia are now well back in this Test match and will be hoping that this partnership carries on for most of the day on day 3. Pakistan will be relying on the fast bowlers today to utilize the early morning moisture and make further inroads into the Aussies batting line up. All in all the first session today will be the deciding factor of this Test match.
