Just like James J Braddock, The Cinderella Man, no one gave Pakistan a chance of winning this World Cup. Reason being Pakistan had not played much cricket in the last 2 years, the 2 years when Twenty20 really took off. Pakistan’s players did not participate in the second edition of IPL as well, hence they were short on Twenty20 experience! Every player in Pakistan and India essentially grows up on Twenty20 cricket, as a batsman you just hit sixes and as a bowler you prevent the sixes, plain and simple. No one worried about Pakistan, no one knew Pakistan and hence they won, just like James J Braddock, The Cinderella Man.

OK couple things you should know. Pakistan is well known for criket. Do not forget 1992 World Cup and 1999 World Cup. I also want to mention England’s team as well because in the past, they did make it to the finals but never won one. Pakistan did and have done it again so no it is not a unpredictable thing or a “Surprise” but it can be expected when the vision of the team is alligned with their goal. A country’s local condition might affect the mental pressure of the players but that cannot be the main cause of holding a team back from performing. Whatever is going on in Pakistan i pray to Allah subhanaota’ala that it ends and things get better but it does not mean that the team of Pakistan should be performing bad. I met many Indians over the weekend and when they started talking about Pakistan being in the semi-final, the next thing they said “even though the political conditions are…”. That is just plain jeaousy that they just have to mention something bad to break the good news. Oh well, Pakistan proved itself to be the number one.
Pakistan Zindabad.
